Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage project review software: co-ordinated, complete, control.
Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage software is a comprehensive project review solution that supports analysis, simulation and communication of design intent and constructability. Multi-disciplinary design data created in a broad range of Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital prototype and process plant design applications can be combined into a single integrated project model. Interference management and clash detection tools help design and construction professionals to anticipate and avoid potential problems before construction begins, minimising expensive delays and rework. Navisworks Manage combines spatial co-ordination with the project schedule to deliver 4D simulation and analysis. Entire project models can be published and viewed freely in NWD and DWFTM file formats.
What's New
Gain more control over project outcomes with integration, analysis and communication enhancements in Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage 2012 software. Assess project constructability more accurately through integration support with new Autodesk® Revit® construction modelling tools and multisheet DWFTM support for 2D and 3D designs. Improved Revit Interoperability
A number of interoperability improvements to workflows between Autodesk® Revit® products and Autodesk® Navisworks® products help to increase your productivity. Switchback enables you to move quickly between views in Navisworks products and Revit products for easier navigation and visualisation. Support for new Revit Construction Modelling tools enables you to pass your construction components into Navisworks for 4D simulation. This release also supports Revit properties, including areas, volumes and points, along with Revit- linked files and split regions.
Timeliner Enhancements
The enhanced Timeliner tool provides you with greater control and flexibility when working with 4D simulations. A new interface and integrated, editable Gantt control enable you to create, edit and communicate your construction schedule more effectively. The new Timeliner API (application programming interface) enables you to extend and tailor the 4D toolset to help meet your project and business requirements.
Clash Detection Enhancements
The Clash Detective tool features a number of improvements that can better support management and resolution of project clashes. Workflow tools enable you to assign ownership of clashes. Improved reporting tools provide you with a batch summary of the status of your clashes and the ability to export a formatted report directly to Microsoft® Office Excel® software. Better visualisation of clashes is supported by a new wireframe view and a clash focus feature.
New Multisheet 2D DWF Support
Navisworks now offers multisheet 2D DWFTM support, so you can open, review and explore your 2D datasets alongside your 3D models. The 2D view is integrated with the 3D environment, enabling you to select a model component in the 3D world and then find and review the same component in a 2D representation (such as a floor plan or section). This parallel viewing capability provides you with a greater level of detail, helping you to make more accurate and timely decisions on project tasks.
Better File Interoperability
Navisworks continues to improve the level of interoperability with the applications used by your project team. Along with updates to support the latest versions of Autodesk® applications, including DWFx, this release sees enhanced support for Primavera®, Faro®, RVM, Pro/ENGINEER®, Sketchup® and DGN to help keep your Navisworks workflows current with the latest version of interoperable design and planning software.
New Vault Integration
Navisworks now offers integration with the Autodesk® Vault data management toolset for better control of your project data. Autodesk Vault offers a comprehensive solution for managing the large volume of data that is generated on your projects. Navisworks and Autodesk Vault integration enables you to Retrieve/Save, Check In/Check Out, control file versioning and manage the relationship between NWF and design data.
More Consistent FBX Materials
When working with the Autodesk® FBX® visualisation file format you can now achieve a more accurate transfer of materials, textures and lights when importing or exporting data between Autodesk® Navisworks® software and other FBX-compatible applications. For instance, you could import your data from AutoCAD® and Autodesk® Revit® software products into Navisworks and then export the whole-project model into Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design software for professional-quality visualisation.
Enhanced Freedom Toolset
A number of additional features in the Autodesk® Navisworks® Freedom tool make the free* viewer an even more valuable part of the Navisworks product set. A new measurement tool supports field access to dimensioning and area calculation. Navisworks Freedom now also supports 2D DWF sheets and you will be able to access the Gantt chart when playing your Timeliner simulations.
New Communication Tools
A range of new tools help you to communicate, visualise and review your project data more effectively. The Appearance Profiler allows you to override the colour and transparency of objects based on their properties or sets, providing easier visual differentiation of systems and components in your model. A range of new avatars enables you to communicate the perspective of your multiple project stakeholders better.

Autodesk® Navisworks® Simulate software: experience your project before it is built.
Autodesk® Navisworks® Simulate software provides advanced tools for simulation and powerful features to help you better communicate project information. Multi-disciplinary design data created in a broad range of Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital prototype and process plant design applications can be combined into a single, integrated project model. Comprehensive 4D simulation, animation and photorealism capabilities assist users in demonstrating design intent and simulating construction, helping to drive insight and predictability. Real-time navigation is combined with a review toolset to support collaboration among the project team. Entire project models can be published and viewed in NWD and DWFTM file formats to provide valuable digital assets during and after construction.
Navisworks Simulate has the functioning to produce one single document for all the models and information that you import into it. This can be stored in a single distributable NWD or DWF file which will be a smaller file that the original design files.
The Photorealistic Visualisations of Navisworks will allow you to develop convincing 3D animations and imagery suitable to present to the clients. Included with in the software are built in materials, lights, rendering styles and backgrounds, all of which enable you to achieve a final rendered image that is photorealistic and looks as you require it too.
Why work in 3D when you can work in 4?
The 4D scheduling tool is a valuable feature to help demonstrate to clients how the construction process will work, as well as ensuring that everything is sequenced correctly, again helping to reduce issues and delays on site. You can link model geometry to times and dates, import times, dates and other task data from project management to dynamically link schedules with the project model.

Iterate Faster, Work in Context
3ds Max 2012 forges ahead with the next steps in the Excalibur (XBR) initiative to revitalise the software at its core. Engineered to help provide dramatic improvements in performance and visual quality, the new Nitrous viewport system uses accelerated GPUs and multi-core workstations to help you iterate faster and manage larger data sets with limited impact on interactivity. The render-quality display environment helps you to make better creative decisions in the context of your final output.
Smoother Interoperability
For many visualisations, useful data already exists in another application. Now you can take advantage of that data more easily thanks to new interoperability with Autodesk® Alias® Design software for industrial design. You can add sculpted details on top of Alias Design reference data using the intuitive Graphite polygon modelling toolset, which now features a new French curve-like ‘Constrain to Spline’ mode to help guide the brush as changes are made to the mesh, as well as new Transform and Conform brushes. What’s more, you can now enjoy automated iterative workflows between AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software and 3ds Max Design with the Civil View feature set. Using civil data in 3ds Max Design, you can automatically create roads complete with road markings, circulation lanes and chevrons; place trees at random or regular offsets along the side of a road or railway; or populate a highway with moving vehicles.

Nitrous Accelerated Graphics Core Experience dramatic improvements in performance and visual quality with the new Nitrous viewport system. The render-quality display environment supports lights, soft shadows, screen-space ambient occlusion, tone-mapping and higher-quality transparency.
Autodesk Alias Design Interoperability
Enjoy smoother interoperability with Autodesk Alias Design software for industrial design with the new ability to import .WIRE files natively into 3ds Max Design 2012 as Bodies objects, preserving object names, hierarchies, layers and material names.
You can now adjust tessellation results interactively inside 3ds Max Design and add sculpted details on top of Alias Design reference data using the intuitive Graphite polygon modelling toolset.
Substance Procedural Textures
Achieve a vast range of look variations with a new library of 80 Substance procedural textures. These dynamically editable and animatable resolution- independent textures automatically generate bump maps and specular maps for impressive results and can be quickly converted to bitmaps for rendering.
iRay Renderer
Creating highly realistic images is easier with 3ds Max Design, using the newly integrated iray rendering technology from mental images. iray enables you to set up your scene using real-world materials and lighting. Just press ‘render’ to get more predictable, photorealistic results without worrying about rendering settings. iray progressively refines the image until the desired level of detail is achieved.
Stylistic Rendering
Create a variety of non-photorealistic (NPR) effects with the new ability to render stylised images in the viewport and with the Quicksilver renderer. The looser, more abstract style of NPR imagery helps you to communicate your core design intent more effectively while de-emphasising distracting or incomplete design details.
Autodesk Civil View
Create highly realistic visualisations in 3ds Max Design automatically using civil data from AutoCAD Civil 3D with the Civil View (formerly Dynamite VSP) feature set. With the repeatable, style-based process, styles are defined once and then applied with minimal effort to multiple iterations or projects. Civil View now offers enhanced support for the new iray and Quicksilver rendering solutions.
Sculpting and Painting Enhancements
Enjoy greater control over brushstrokes and their effects on geometry, thanks to new sculpting and painting workflows. Some highlights: new Transform brushes enable you to slide vertices along target surfaces; a new Conform brush guides geometry towards another surface; and Paint Deform brushstrokes can now be constrained to a spline for use as a guide or ruler.
